Our Products Are Oeko-Tex Certified: What That Means
We sleep better knowing that My Luxury Linen is committed to manufacturing products that are safe for you, your partner and the planet. Our bedlinen are Oeko-Tex certified, meaning they surpass the most stringent safety and environmental protection standards in the world. Simply explained our bedlinen are made in a nature-friendly way and free of harmful synthetics and chemicals. But what does that really mean and how do I know the fabric is safe? Let us break it down for you.
ORGANIC DOESN’T MEAN WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK
As consumers increasingly demand natural products, companies frequently manipulate the term ‘organic’ when labeling their textiles. Fibers grown organically – but processed with toxic chemicals – may still carry the organic label. ‘Wrinkle free’ or ‘permanent press’ labels should also be avoided because manufacturers treat these fabrics with formaldehyde resin, a toxic chemical. So what should you look for?
OKO-TEX: WHAT IS REALLY MEANS
The goal of Oeko-Tex fabric safety standard is to ensure that fabrics pose no risk to human health, or anyone or anything that would sleep or be close to the fabrics. A global network of laboratories operates Oeko-Tex, a certification system for textile producers. They test for harmful substances which are prohibited or regulated by law and chemicals which are known to be harmful to health.
They also test for color fading and acidity as a precautionary measure to safeguard health at every stage of production. Oeko-Tex certified fabrics are required to have a skin friendly pH. If you remember your high school chemistry, pH is the indication of the level of acidity or base (salt). Skin's natural pH is a tad acidic, and when it's eroded your defenses are down, leaving you vulnerable to bacteria, moisture loss, and irritation. Oeko-Tex certified fabrics will not create these stresses and the fabrics will feel lovely against your skin.
All components of the product, without exception, must comply with these standards, including the sewing thread, lining, buttons, etc. This process surpasses all other existing criterion in safety and environmental protection.
But it’s not only about you, it’s also about the humans making your bedding. All My Luxury Linen's products are made in Portugal in a family owned factory located in Northern Portugal. We care for our team and by choosing Oko-tex certified fabrics we can also make sure that all beloved people in the process of making My luxury linen’s are safe.
